Farewell and profound thanks to Ken Hammill

All of us at the GYMC were deeply saddened by the passing of Ken Hammill. Most people in Guelph knew Ken as a longtime city councillor, but we at the centre were lucky to have him as a long-serving board member and Chair. He was a steady hand at the GYMC during difficult times, and not only contributed greatly to our fundraising efforts but spearheaded the installation of solar panels on the roof of the building. The panels feed power to the city’s  electrical grid, contribute to a greener environment, and lowers the cost of maintaining the centre. Ken lead the fundraising campaigns that led to the creation of the skating rink in front of City Hall, and also the John McCrae statue in front of the Civic Museum. After health issues forced him to step down from the GYMC board, he made a final visit to the centre last May to accept our Volunteer Award for 2019. He will be remembered fondly, with admiration and deep gratitude. Thanks, Ken. You’ll always be with us.
